The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles in cooperation with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC)-Los Angeles is pleased to invite all interested Filipinos and Filipino-Americans to a financial literacy seminar dubbed, “Investment & Tax Briefing: Investment Opportunities, Ease of Doing Business, and Comprehensive Tax Reform Program.” The seminar will be led by Mr. Mon Abrea, Chair and CEO of the Asian Consulting Group and will be held on Friday, January 7 2022 at 5:30 p.m. (PDT) at the Consulate General’s Consular Premises.
Mr. Abrea will be covering the new corporation code, tax reform laws including tax incentives and taxes for dual citizens, updates on the ease of doing business & digitalization of government transactions, among others. After the presentation, time will be allotted for an open forum/Q&A.

She signed a deal with Warner Records ahead of her debut single “Build a Bitch,” the music video for which earned 75 million views in its first week alone. It became the biggest debut ever for a new artist on YouTube and led to a Billboard Hot 100 ranking. Poarch’s online presence made her a target for trolls who left comments encouraging suicide. “I felt like I was back in school being bullied,” says Poarch, “but after a certain point I realized none of it matters.”
Positioned at #41, actor and musician HAILEE STEINFELD (24) shot to fame with an Oscar nomination for ”True Grit” and hasn’t slowed since. Returning to this list, her current projects include the Disney Plus series ”Hawkeye” and the third season of the Apple TV Plus series ”Dickinson” in which she acts and executive produces. The Fiesta Filipinas project is a six-part, multi-format online event series organized by the DFA in cooperation with the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). It aims to simulate the experience of a Philippine festival through a combination of live and pre-recorded videos and live workshops and activities.

The FLS pilot episode will feature resource speakers from the Philippines’ Pag-IBIG Fund and the Philippine National Bank-Los Angeles (PNB-LA) branch.

Creative Asian Americans including individuals of Filipino descent won Oscar statuettes at Sunday's televised 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) which honored the best films of 2020 and early 2021.
It was the first time the 93rd Academy Awards was held virtually and in-person due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
H.E.R. won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, "Fight For You" for the motion picture, "Judas and the Black Messiah." She wrote the song with D'Mile and Tiara Thomas.
She is the first Filipina American woman to win an Academy Award. She is also the second Black woman to win this award, the first being Irene Cara for "Flashdance" in 1983.
Songwriter Robert Lopez, known for his songs on Disney’s “Frozen”, was the first Filipino man to win an Academy Award back in 2014.
Trevor Jimenez (story supervisor, and an Oscar nominated filmmaker himself for the 2019 animated short film, "Weekends") and the entire cast and crew of Pixar's "Soul" won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

NOTE: Steven Yeun (“Minari”) became the first Asian American actor to be nominated for Best Actor. Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”) is the first Muslim to be nominated for Best Actor. It's the first time that there were two Best Actor candidates of Asian heritage.
