Close to sixty years ago, the first Filipino American artist to have won a Grammy was Larry Ramos with The New Christy Minstrels for Best Performance In A Chorus in 1963. It was for their 1962 debut album, 'Presenting The New Christy Minstrels.' In 1967, he joined The Association. On Sunday, April 3rd 2022, five Filipino American artists - Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R., Saweetie, Bruno Mars (of Silk Sonic) and Elle King (in a duet with Miranda Lambert) had 22 Grammy nominations between them - but three of them conquered the 64th annual Grammy Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada scoring three of the four major awards. Olivia Rodrigo won three of her seven Grammy nominations for her debut album, 'Sour.' They were Best Pop Vocal Album ('Sour'), Best Pop Solo Performance ('drivers license') and Best New Artist. Rodrigo's win for Best New Artist puts her in esteemed company including Carly Simon, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Tom Jones, Billie Eilish and the Beatles.
